The 3Rs Revisited is a new and rewarding online literacy and numeracy professional development program designed for VET practitioners working in Registered Training Organisations.  The program is highly practical and enables participants to develop skills and strategies for helping learners meet the language, literacy and numeracy demands of their course.          

Program Description

The 3Rs Revisited is delivered online and is offered asynchronously over a four week period.  It is an actively facilitated, discussion-based  program in WebCT, with an average of two learning activities per week.  The program will develop your capacity to: 
  • identify the language, literacy and numeracy demands of training packages, and the workplace
  • identify learners who may need support with literacy and numeracy in training and assessment
  • design a variety of teaching and assessment strategies that will support learners develop their language, literacy and numeracy skills
  • review teaching and assessment materials to ensure they are not making undue demands on the literacy and numeracy skills of learners.
The Facilitators

This program will be led by Graeme Kirkwood and Rosemary Bloomfield.   Graeme is the Manager of Learning Development at TAFE Tasmania and is responsible for developing teacher capacity within the organisation.  He has previously operated his own VET consultancy business and he has significant experience teaching English in the senior secondary sector.   Rosemary has been involved in the adult literacy and basic education area since 1991.   In her current current role as Statewide Vocational Literacy and Numeracy Facilitator she is developing a strategic approach for TAFE Tasmania to better support students with literacy and numeracy skills gaps.

Next Offering

6 August - 3 September 2008.  As a participant you will need to allocate approximately 8-10 hours per week to the program to maximise your learning, but there is flexibility around when and how often you participate.

Assessment

Participants in this program may choose to complete assessment tasks or provide recognition evidence that will enable them to be assessed in TAALLN401B: Address language, literacy and numeracy issues within learning and assessment practice

Cost

The cost of this program is $AUS575 plus $AUS125 if you are seeking assessment.  Please note that you will not have to decide if you want to be assessed (and pay the $AUS125) until the course has commenced.  A group discount of 20% will apply where three or more people from the same organisation register together.
