Do
you teach students whose ability to learn is affected by poor
literacy/numeracy skills?
Have
you wondered what you can do to assist them, and where you can
get extra support?
Welcome
to the professional development program: The 3 R's Revisited
- Supporting students with literacy/numeracy needs.
This
program is aimed at staff in delivery teams, and addresses three
questions:
- what
can you do yourself to support students with literacy/numeracy
needs?
- when
do you need to work collaboratively with literacy/numeracy experts?
- when
should you refer students on to specialists for targeted support?
|
In
particular the program will help you to:
- identify
the literacy and numeracy demands of your training package,
and the workplace
- identify
learners who may need support with literacy and numeracy in
training and assessment
- design
a variety of teaching and assessment strategies which will help
your learners develop their literacy and numeracy skills
- review
your teaching and assessment materials to ensure they are not
making undue demands on the literacy and numeracy skills of
learners.
You
can work through this program yourself by simply following the menu
above. However a better approach would be to work with a facilitator,
either one-to-one, or with a group of other teachers. For more advice
about this, contact your local ALBE team leader, or a member of
the Learning and Innovation team. |
