It
is essential that your learning materials and tasks match, rather
than exceed, the LLN requirements of your units.
How
confident are you that the language, literacy and numeracy demands
you make on students in the training context (eg readings, exercises,
activities, websites) are not more difficult than the LLN demands
of your training package, or the workplace?
Try
the following activity:
- Choose
one or more of the learning resources and/or learning tasks that
you use with your students.
NB: 'Resources' could include workbooks, learning guides, textbooks, videos,
e-learning programs, etc.
'Tasks' could include projects, exercises, activities, questions, etc.
|
Use
the table provided in the link below to:
- evaluate
how well your resources and/or tasks match your unit requirements
- plan
alternative approaches where necessary.
NB:
to complete this activity you may need to refer back to Activities
2 and 4, where you identified the LLN requirements of a unit, and
customised them using workplace examples.

The
links opposite give further information which may be useful in ensuring
that
your learning resources are not creating unnecessary barriers for
your learners.
The
first link introduces an excellent feature built into Microsoft
Word which allows you to check the readability level of your reading material.
The
second link introduces a range of simple e-learning strategies,
including games-based methods, which can
be used to produce material which is more engaging and accessible
for
students, and which reinforce LLN skill development. |
