Certificate I ( RII10106) (Pre-Apprenticeship)
Description
The course includes a number of qualifications and licences used in Mining and for other Industries as well. The outcomes are 90% of students employed in the mining and resource industry.
Who should enrol in this qualification?
The mining Pre-Apprenticeship course has been designed in conjunction with the Mining Industry for potential Miners and Minerals Process workers.
Do I need any skills?
Minimum of 18 years of age. A keen interest in the mining industry.
A selection process will take place.
How long will it take?
Full-time - 6 weeks
4 weeks - Monday to Friday - 9am to 4pm (Queenstown Campus)
2 weeks work experience (To be negotiated)
Starts: 18 August - 26 September 2008

How will I learn?
- demonstrate knowledge by recall in a narrow range of areas
- demonstrate basic practical skills, such as the use of relevant tools
- perform a sequence of routine tasks given clear direction
- receive and pass on messages/information.
How will I be assessed?
Throughout all assessments, Occupational Health & Safety procedures must be followed.
When you apply to train at TAFE Tasmania you can ask for recognition of previous VET in Schools, work or study experience. This is called Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
When I complete this training, what’s next?
This training could lead to employment as an Underground and Open Cut Miner or Minerals Process Worker and in employment as an allied tradesperson.
Further study options: Certificate III in Open Cut & Underground Mining, Certificate III in Minerals Processing and continue training in Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma.

Fees
There are no course fees for this course.
Additional Costs will apply for safety equipment.
Personal Protective Equipment required: Safety boots, overalls, leather gloves and safety glasses.
