What is the course all about?
This Certificate is designed to provide skills for those carrying out supervisory functions in the financial services industry.
Who should enrol in this qualification?
- Existing employee trainees in the financial industry
- Those currently working in the finance industry in a supervisory role, who require a mix of recognition for their existing skills, together with training and assessment in skill and knowledge gaps
- Those people who do not want to gain the complete qualification but complete individual units as required for professional development or career advancement
Do I need any skills?
You will need an aptitude for finance and an interest in computer applications as demonstrated by working in the financial industry.

How will I learn?
Depending on your needs, learning may be on-the-job, off-the-job or a combination of both. Options will include:
- Day or evening classes at the relevant campus
- Studying off campus with a mixture of distance and on-line study
- Learning your skills in the workplace and receiving recognition by being assessed for those skills
How will I be assessed?
Throughout all assessments, Occupational Health & Safety procedures must be followed. Options for assessment will include:
- Preparing financial records and reports for simulated business situations
- Being observed performing practical tasks
- Gathering evidence of your competency for recognition of your skills
- On-line quizzes and tasks
- Completing short answer questions
- Completing supervised assessments
- Performing tasks demonstrating the use of accounting and other business software

When I complete this training, what's next?
Depending on how you completed this training, further study or career options may include:
- Working in the financial industry as a Customer Service Team Leader, Customer Services Officer, Office Manager or Client Services Officer
- Leading a work team in the financial services industry

To attain the Certificate IV in Financial Services 13 units must be achieved:
- 4 core units, plus
- 9 elective units.

Please Note: units may vary slightly between campuses.
Fees
You'll be surprised at how affordable TAFE Tasmania is - most courses have a cap of $990 for one calendar year of training ($275 with concession). You do not pay HECS. Additional costs may apply to some courses for uniforms, licenses or text books.
Concessions … apply to students in receipt of, or dependant of a person in receipt of Centrelink benefits (e.g. Austudy, Abstudy, Youth Allowance, New Start, Pension, Parenting Payment etc.).

Assessment tools are validated with people working in the industry to ensure they are appropriate for a range of workplace contexts.
Consultation
This learning and assessment strategy has been prepared with ongoing guidance from our Enterprise Reference Group, which comprises members who have financial experience in financial planning, financial institutions, government, the accounting and book-keeping profession, small business and large local and national companies.
