Description
This course aims to provide a program of study focused on the film, video and multimedia industries. Outcomes cater for employment or further study in film or broadcast media and related disciplines. This course develops skills essential in art of video scripting and production and also provide essential technical skills in camera work, sound, lighting and editing.
The Certificate IV is seen as an entry level course leading to the Diploma in Screen, which will provide an opportunity to develop technical and production skills and also an option of entering the field of animation.
The Certificate IV is offered on a full-time basis and offers participants the opportunity to develop expertise in the following areas:
- Setup and use of professional digital cameras
- Introduction to sound recording and editing
- Use of lighting
- Elements of planning and production
- Digital editing techniques
- Introduction to 2D and 3D animation

Do I need any skills?
The completion of Year 12 or equivalent.
OR
Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit; vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies are used to determine entry.
All students will be required to attend an interview for selection. Evidence of interest and previous involvement in this area would be of benefit to the applicants.

How will I learn?
The course is delivered as a full-time program which will require the students to attend training and assessment activities for five days a week, 34 weeks of the year, at the Academy of Arts, Inveresk.
Within the classroom, participants are offered flexible delivery using a combination of structured classes, tutorials, workshops, and practical projects.
Students will also be expected to work unsupervised on specific projects outside their normal class times.
How will I be assessed?
Throughout all assessments, Occupational Health & Safety procedures must be following.
When you apply to train at TAFE Tasmania you can ask for recognition of previous VET in schools, work or study experience. This is called Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

The film, television, radio and multimedia industries are anticipated to
continue to grow significantly. Occupations include:
- The ideas and creative positions of scriptwriters, producers, directors, animators and editors.
- The creative craft departments of production, art and design, camera, lighting, sound and editing.
- Technical operations in construction, camera, sound, make-up, wardrobe and technical engineering.
- Administration and management, including recruitment, financial administration and marketing.
- Freelance production of documentaries and corporate videos.

You'll be surprised at how affordable TAFE Tasmania is - most courses have a cap of $990 for one calendar year of training ($275 with concession). You do not pay HECS. Additional costs may apply to some courses for uniforms, licenses or text books.
Concessions … apply to students in receipt of, or dependant of a person in receipt of Centrelink benefits (e.g. Austudy, Abstudy, Youth Allowance, New Start, Pension, Parenting Payment etc.).

Assessment Validation Process
The Institute of TAFE Tasmania will validate this strategy annually via a staff moderation process and reference to an arts industry group.
