Description
This course aims to provide a broad range of skills for those who wish to work in the Music Industry.
Who should enrol in this qualification?
People who are looking to develop basic knowledge and skills in audio technology. These are applied to the areas of sound reinforcement, recording, radio and sound for video.
Do I need any skills?
Students are required to attend a Selection Interview. Selection Interviews are held in November each year. Previous experience in sound/or music is preferred but not essential.

How will I learn?
A series of classroom work, project work and observed activities. Basic concepts are taught and then practical applications of these concepts are carried out.
How will I be assessed?
Throughout all assessments, Occupational Health and Safety procedures must be followed.
- Assessment takes place throughout the training period and at the end of projects
- Assessment will happen on the job and/or in a simulated workplace, activities.
- Individual assessments may include: assessment checklists, workbooks, assignments, portfolios, music projects, student presentations.
- Strategies may include: demonstrations, studio-based observation, written work, presentation, role play and case studies.
When I complete this training, what's next?
Opportunities for employment exist in self-employment or as practitioners in medium to large recording studios. Other pathways include public address systems, working in event teams, radio, television, also basic levels in management.
What Competencies will I undertake?
To obtain a Certificate III in Music Industry (Technical Production) achieve 12 units: all three of the units from Group A plus six units from Group B and three others from the Certificate III Unit Bank. Two of the other units may be drawn from another endorsed industry training package at Certificate III level.

- Record Sound
- Develop and Maintain the General Knowledge Required by Presenters
- Conduct an Interview
- Present Information On-air
- Conduct Live Voice Report
- Collect and Organise Information
Fees
You'll be surprised at how affordable TAFE Tasmania is - most courses have a cap of $990 for one calendar year of training ($275 with concession). You do not pay HECS. Additional costs may apply to some courses for uniforms, licenses or text books.
Concessions … apply to students in receipt of, or dependant of a person in receipt of Centrelink benefits (e.g. Austudy, Abstudy, Youth Allowance, New Start, Pension, Parenting Payment etc.).
Additional costs apply in this course for text books and stationery, protective clothing and equipment, travelling expenses, as well as tools, minor equipment and project materials as required.
