Fire Operations
Turn up the heat…
Providing the latest skills and knowledge in most aspects of fire operations, these courses are available by distance education with some practical training components.
Qualifications Available:
For people already working in the portable fire equipment servicing industry to gain national competencies to qualify for a Tasmania Fire Service permit to undertake this work.
- Public Safety (Firefighting) - Certificate II, III & IV
For people aready employed as firefighters in fire brigades and emergency response teams. The employee's agency and TAFE Tasmania would deliver and accredit the training.
Short Courses
Fire Extinguisher Servicing
This is a short course covering:
- identification of portable firefighting equipment
- preparation for installation and maintenance operations
- servicing of fire extinguishers and fire blankets
- inspection, testing and replacing of fire hose reels
- inspection and testing of fire hydrants
These five units of competence, taken from the Asset Maintenance Training Package (Fire Protection Equipment ), are the requirements for a permit issued by the Tasmania Fire Service to undertake servicing of fire extinguishers, fire blankets, hose reels and fire hydrants in the field.
Fire Fighting (Pre-recruit)
- No dates are available at this stage.
- No applications will be accepted.
The pre-recruit course runs on a cycle with Fire Department Recruitments. However, successful completion of the course does not guarantee a position as a Trainee Firefighter.
