Natural Resources and Forestry - North
Agriculture is one of Tasmania’s largest export industries. It involves a wide range of enterprises ranging from fruit and vegetable production, to livestock industries, dairying and associated service providers, wool and shearing industries.
Horticulture is a vibrant and flourishing industry in Tasmania and is concerned with enterprises such as nursery production, landscaping and gardening, green keeping, arboriculture and flower production.
The forest and forest products industry covers all the activities associated with the production of timber, from growing and management of plantation and native forest resources through harvesting, merchandising and retailing of finished products. Forestry is a major industry in Tasmania with plenty of career opportunities developing in the downstream processing sector.
Racing Industry Training
The racing industry is an international industry with racing and breeding conducted in North and South America, Europe, Asia, South Africa and Australia and New Zealand. In Australia the industry consists of three national codes: thoroughbred, standardbred and greyhound. The codes refer to the breed and type of animal competing.
The Institute is the only Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in Tasmania providing training, and issuing qualifications, for people in the racing industry. The training package is up to date and in line with industry expectations. You will need to be physically fit, have a liking for outdoor work and be in good health to really enjoy this industry.
Inside the racing industry you could work in the areas of; Race Tracks, Race Stables, Breeding Properties, Racing Administration, Owner - Trainer etc.
If you are interested in becoming an Apprentice Jockey, you can enrol in & complete a Certificate ll in Racing with TAFE Tasmania. This will be done with a training agreement in place.
After this, you may then be indentured as an apprentice and complete Certificates lll & lV with Racing Victoria.
