Three cheers for viticulture…
The wine industry is one of Australia’s most dynamic, developing
rural based industries. It is now a major component of our agricultural
economy with an export value approaching $3 billion and now rivals traditional export industries such as wheat, wool or
beef.
Tasmania’s wine industry, although small by Australian standards,
is nonetheless an important and growing sector of the State’s
economy. Our cool climate industry, which focuses on the production
of premium and super premium, high value wines, sets us apart from
many of the larger, hotter areas on the mainland. We have already
established a reputation for the quality of many of our wines particularly
our Pinot Noir table wines and sparkling wines.
Trained staff are scarce and
employment opportunities exist throughout
all wine producing regions. These
opportunities extend across the
whole of the industry from the vineyard to the winery to the
cellar door.
