Pre Apprenticeship


Description

The plumbing industry offers motivated and enthusiastic people the opportunity of employment in a diverse and in-demand trade with skills recognised around Australia. Plumbers may find themselves working on heating systems in Antarctica, installing sanitary and water systems to high rise buildings, running general contracting businesses, roofing domestic and commercial buildings, specialising in Gas Fitting or with further study, articulating to a hydraulics design level qualification. Just a selection of what can be aimed for!

Responsible for the health and safety of the community, the plumbing industry has an urgent need of both males and females determined to make a career in this exciting profession.

The Plumbing and Gas Pre-Apprenticeship course provides successful applicants with the opportunity of completing approximately one full years' standard training in just 8-10 weeks.

Do I need any skills?

Desirable: Maths - MT422, MAW3C or equivalent. English - EN416, ENG3C or equivalent.

Places are limited and subject to an interview process.

How long will it take?

Full-time, 8-10 weeks (includes 2 weeks work placement), Monday to Friday - 8am to 4.30pm

Commences: 2 February - 9 April 2009
Interviews will be held: 9 - 10 December 2008. Times to be advised.

How will I be assessed?

When you apply to train at the Institute you can ask for recognition of previous work or study experience. This is called recognition of current competencies (RCC) or recognition of prior learning (RPL) depending on your subject area. It doesn't matter where or how you developed your skills, TAFE Tasmania values and takes into account your existing skills.

When I complete this training, what’s next?

Wide ranging opportunities including: Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, General Plumbing, Roof Plumbing, Mechanical Services and Gas Fitting.

Fees

Full Fees: $715.75
Concession: $275
plus costs for safety equipment (boots, safety glasses, coveralls etc) and stationery including calculator.

You'll be surprised at how affordable TAFE Tasmania is - most courses have a cap of $990 for one calendar year of training ($275 with concession). You do not pay HECS. Additional costs may apply to some courses for uniforms, licenses or text books.

Concessions apply to students in receipt of, or dependant of a person in receipt of Centrelink benefits (e.g. Austudy, Abstudy, Youth Allowance, New Start, Pension, Parenting Payment etc.).
