Who should enrol in this qualification?

  • This course is offered to people employed within the public sector – either state or commonwealth.


Do I need any skills?

Participants must be currently employed or have been employed in the last three years, within the public sector. You may have completed a Certificate IV in Government or another qualification.

Pathways
The competencies in this qualification may be attained in a number of ways including through:

  • formal or informal education and training
  • experiences in the workplace
  • general life experience, and/or
  • any combination of the above.

How long will it take?

You may take up to 24 months to complete the course.


Where can I learn?

You will learn:

  • on the job
  • by attending workshops delivered either by TAFE Tasmania or
  • Agency ‘in-house’ training


How will I learn?

Depending on your needs, learning may be on-the-job, off-the-job attending either TAFE Tasmania or TPS Workshops or combination of both to address the employability skills related to the unit.

Options will include:

  • Workshops
  • Practical training sessions
  • A guided practical experiences program
  • Observation
  • Mentoring


How will I be assessed?

Throughout all assessments, Occupational Health & Safety procedures must be followed.
Assessment will be by recognition of current competency using a combination of the following options:

  • Demonstrating practical skills
  • Individual questioning
  • An evidence portfolio (including third party reports and records of previous training and assessment)
  • Case studies and scenarios
  • structured observation in the workplace by supervisors, managers, peers, clients, trainers or external specialist assessors
  • records of performance in the workplace
  • interview
  • practical exercises or demonstrations, including scenarios and case studies
  • assignments or projects


What other study or career options are available?

Depending on how you completed this training, further study or career options within TPS, other jurisdictions or other justice fields may include:

  • adding to your Diploma of Government to create a more specialised qualification eg Diploma of Government (Project Management) or Diploma of Government (Human Resources)
  • PSP60104 Advanced Diploma of Government

Fees

Approximately $175 per unit.


Assessment Validation Process

An industry panel will be established to oversee the implementation and management of this qualification.

This strategy will be validated annually by TAFE Tasmania and representatives of the public sector.

Assessment validation processes will include:

  • Establishment of an assessment panel
  • Moderation and validation meetings
  • Client satisfaction surveys
  • Peer reviews
  • Post implementation review
