Description

The Certificate III in E-Business is designed to develop participants' skills in electronic business, or business over the Internet. These skills will assist you to run your business more efficiently. Skill areas covered include: buying on-line, selling on-line, email, banking on-line and processing business transactions on-line.

The Certificate IV in E-Business is designed to develop participants' skills and abilities in managing their business over the Internet. Competency areas covered include: trading over the Internet, and monitoring and managing business on-line.

Who should enrol in this qualification?

The Certificate III in e-Business is designed to give the student an overall introduction to e-Business/e-Commerce with an emphasis on processes. Successful completion of the course may assist small business owners to better understand and operate in an electronic environment. It may also lead to positions in the following areas:

  • Online business Assistance Officer
  • Online Admin Purchasing/Support Assistant
  • Administration Officer (IT)
  • Online business role in Industry

The course also provides business training for a person who has designated process and resource responsibilities. This could be a clerical/administration role in a smaller organisation and who require broad processing skills based in an electronic environment. The course provides generic online trading understanding in e-business. (ie Buying online, selling online, email, banking online.)

The Certificate IV in e-Business is designated to give the student an overall introduction to e-Business with an emphasis on controlling and supervising the e-Business processing of dealing in an online environment. Successful completion of the course may assist small business owners to better understand, operate and supervise in an electronic environment, especially those with a large or multiple site responsibility. It may also lead to positions in the following areas:

  • Online Business Officer
  • Online Administration Officer

Do I need any skills?

There are no prerequisites, however students will need basic computing skills including internet, Literacy and Numeracy skills to the level required in a contemporary workplace.

For students to study outside of TAFE, they will need access to a computer with internet access.

How long will it take?

It is generally accepted that the Certificate III & IV can be completed within 6-12 months.

At a TAFE campus or online from your home or workplace anywhere in Tasmania.

How will I learn?

Face to face delivery in computer labs and/or flexible self paced learning.

The necessity of students to be able to access WebCT to undertake the course limits the methods of delivery available to us.

Students have a variety of units to choose from to obtain their qualification, and the decision making process of selecting the units is usually done in conjunction with a member of the Small Business team so that the student is directed towards units that will benefit their study.

Students also have the opportunity to be recognised for their existing skills and may elect to provide sufficient evidence to allow assessment instead of undertaking study in units that they may already have skills, knowledge and qualifications.

How will I be assessed?

Throughout all assessments, Occupational Health & Safety procedures must be followed. Options for assessment will include:

  • short answer case studies/activities
  • workplace based holistic projects
  • workplace based assessments/examples
  • multiple choice assessment
  • holistic evidence portfolio
  • employment (third party) validation and
  • summative assessment

Depending on how you completed this training, further study or career options may be available.

What Competencies will I undertake?

CERTIFICATE III IN E-BUSINESS

The rules for this qualification state that you must choose 12 units from the qualification:

A minimum of 5 units from the E-Business units listed below, and a minimum of 3 units from the Common Units at cert III level including Maintain Workplace Safety.

It is possible to choose a total of 8 E-Business units, but you may choose 4 units from the Business Services Training Package such as the Small Business Management package or any other endorsed training package. (A maximum of 2 units may be included from a lower or higher level.)

  • Use and Maintain Electronic Mail System
  • Maintain Online Business Records

  • Produce Business Documents

  • Deliver and Monitor a Service to Customers
  • Organise Personal Work Priorities and Developments
  • Monitor a Safe Workplace

CERTIFICATE IV IN E-BUSINESS

The rules for this qualification state that you must choose 10 units from the qualification:

A minimum of 5 units from the E-Business units listed below, and a minimum of 2 units from the Common Units at Certificate IV level.

It is possible to choose a total of 7 E-Business units, but you may choose 4 units from the Business Services Training Package such as the Small Business Management package or any other endorsed training package. (1 unit may be included from a lower or higher level.)

  • Review and Maintain the Business Aspects of a Website

Fees

You'll be surprised at how affordable TAFE Tasmania is - most courses have a cap of $990 for one calendar year of training ($275 with concession). You do not pay HECS. Additional costs may apply to some courses for uniforms, licenses or text books.

Concessions apply to students in receipt of, or dependant of a person in receipt of Centrelink benefits (e.g. Austudy, Abstudy, Youth Allowance, New Start, Pension, Parenting Payment etc).

Assessment Validation Process

It is the intent of the Small Business Team to validate a number of their assessments annually.

The Team will also validate any assessment on an as needed basid throughout the year if that need should arise.

The method of validation will be by way of involvement of assessors from the Small Business Team.
