Certificate IV (SRF40206)
Description
This qualification facilitates the development of the following knowledge and skills.
- Plan and program exercise for fitness industry clients
- Utilise a broad knowledge of exercise science principles in fitness training
- Undertake basic postural appraisals to evaluate clients posture, functional range of movement and muscle strength and weakness in preparation for the development of an exercise program
- Use, maintain and demonstrate the use of a broad range of fitness equipment
- Provide exercise for low risk clients with common medical, injury or health conditions, after referral from and under the supervision of medical and health professional and as part of the team of health and medical professionals.
- Analyse client behaviours and recommend strategies for exercise adherence
- Provide basic information about health eating and design exercise plans and programs to reduce the level of body fat in clients
- Plan and deliver exercise for different groups (such as those with disabilities or a specific fitness activity/interest), different environments (such as in a community setting) or for specific populations (such as gentle exercise).
Do I need any skills?
A Certificate III in Fitness
An ability to undertake science/biology units. To succeed students must have at least basic levels of literacy and numeracy.
Institute of TAFE Tasmania offers support to students who may have difficulty meeting the above requirements. Some of these skills may be improved through the learning process. If required, other assessment methods may be used for students (e.g. verbal tests instead of short written tests)
How long will it take?
6 months -
1-2 workshops per week (evenings and occasional weekend)

Depending on your needs, learning may be on-the-job, off-the-job or a combination of both.

Throughout all assessments, Occupational Health & Safety procedures must be followed.
When I complete this training, what’s next?
This qualification provides the skills to work as a Personal Trainer. Students completing the Certificate IV may continue on to study the Diploma of Fitness

- SRFFIT008B Utilise a broad knowledge of exercise science in exercise planning, programming and instruction
- SRFFIT009B Undertake postural appraisal of low risk clients
- SRFFIT010B Utilise a broad range of fitness equipment
- SRFFIT011B Provide exercises for fitness industry clients with special requirements
- SRFFIT012B Utilise an understanding of motivational psychology with fitness clients

Electives
A comprehensive list of electives units will be given at the information session or can be obtained from the delivery team.
Fees
Commercial fees apply to this course and are not subject to the fees cap. Concessions do not apply. Fees are available on application.
However, due to increased flexibility of delivery the total cost of these qualifications has decreased. Please call the team for details.
