Code of Practice
TAFE Tasmania is committed to the provision of total quality vocational education and training products and services. We aim to ensure that we satisfy our customers’ needs by the adoption of a consistent, high standard of delivery. As part of our commitment to quality service a code of practice has been developed. The code provides an ethical framework that guides our service delivery. We endeavour to ensure that our policies and management practices are in accordance with the code and that, at all times, our actions safeguard the interests and welfare of our customers.
Marketing
TAFE Tasmania will market vocational education and training services and products with integrity, accuracy and professionalism, avoiding vague and ambiguous statements.
Information
TAFE Tasmania will provide accurate, relevant and up-to-date information to customers. This information will include, but not be limited to:
- Admission procedures and criteria
- Certification to be issued to customers on completion or partial completion of courses and qualifications
- Assessment procedures
- Arrangements for the recognition of prior learning / recognition of current competency (RPL/RCC)
- Grievance and appeal procedures
- Client support services
- Refunds
Admissions
Admission of customers by TAFE Tasmania will be conducted in an ethical and responsible manner, which is consistent with the principles of social justice. We will ensure that selection decisions comply with equal opportunity legislation. Adult Education course applications are processed in order of receipt on a first come, first served basis.
Appeals and Grievances
TAFE Tasmania will provide a fair and equitable process for dealing with customer appeals and grievances.
Learning Environment
TAFE Tasmania will maintain a learning environment that is conducive to the success of our customers. We guarantee:
- High professional standards in the delivery of products and services
- Products and services that are continually updated and relevant to customer expectations
- Assessment and recognition services, including recognition of prior learning and credit transfer, that are in accordance with the Australian Quality Training Framework.
Fees and Charges
TAFE Tasmania will provide information on fees and charges together with available concessions prior to final enrolment. Refunds will be available, based on TAFE Tasmania’s Refund Policy. A separate refund policy applies to Adult Education fees. TAFE Tasmania is committed to the Code of Practice as agreed by the Ministerial Council on Education, Employment and Youth Affairs in regard to international fee paying students and complies with the Education Providers Registration (Overseas Students) Act 1992.
Student Welfare and Guidance Services
TAFE Tasmania’s welfare and guidance services will offer non-judgmental, confidential support to students. Specialised counselling will be provided by qualified counsellors. See Student Support.
Occupational Health and Safety
TAFE Tasmania’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy recognises the authority’s obligations under the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995, and commits to maintaining high standards of occupational health and safety for all employees and students.
The complete OH&S Policy is located on campus noticeboards. Please take the time to read it. TAFE Tasmania acknowledges the importance of a preventative approach to occupational health and safety issues and the need for clear strategies to implement and monitor OH&S programs, structures, responsibilities and practices.
Under the policy, responsibilities for OH&S within TAFE Tasmania are:
TAFE Tasmania management will:
1. Provide and maintain equipment and systems of work that are safe
2. Provide sufficient information and training to ensure staff and students are safe from injury and risks to health.
Staff and students will
1. Cooperate with management and adhere to instructions on safe work practices
2. Take care of the health and safety of others
3. Report any hazards, and accidents to their supervisor/teacher.
Regional Occupational Health and Safety committees will:
1. Assist management to identify, process and control risks in the workplace
2. Consider reports on workplace inspections, and investigation of incidents and accidents, and make recommendations to management
3. Assist management by identifying any OH&S training requirements in the workplace.
Confidentiality Policy
Students can be assured that personal information provided to TAFE Tasmania will be given maximum protection and made available only to authorised users such as employers where a contract (eg.training) exists, or to government and research agencies to meet government requirements for research and evaluation purposes. In the case of students under 18, parents/guardians may be informed of student progress and results.
No information about students is released over the telephone. This means that staff cannot take messages for students to confirm by telephone that students are attending classes or even enrolled.

Personal Information Protection Policy
