YOUR CHOICES IN 2009

Learning the things you want to learn, in a way that suits you while offering the right path to a career that matches your skills and interests.
This will be possible in 2009.

In 2009, the way learning is delivered in Tasmania is being transformed.  The best elements of Tasmania’s senior secondary colleges and TAFE Tasmania will be brought together to create three new, dynamic learning organisations.

The three new organisations are the Tasmanian Polytechnic, The Tasmanian Academy and Training Tasmania.

Many of TAFE Tasmania’s campuses around the state will become campuses of The Polytechnic.  The Polytechnic will deliver practical learning that will prepare you for work and your career.

The Polytechnic is for people seeking employment or to go to University through practical learning and vocational courses. At the Polytechnic you will be able to:

Achieve your Tasmanian Certificate of Education
Choose from a wide range of nationally recognised vocational courses, from Certificate 1 to Advanced Diploma

Extend your education with subjects ranging from the arts to technology and many more in between. You can do foundation courses that offer an introduction to areas in which you might be interested. Subjects and extra curricular activities include sport, music, drama and campus social events.

The Polytechnic also offers a range of courses that you can do if you want to apply for university entrance. Some Polytechnic qualifications, particularly at Diploma and Advanced Diploma levels – are credited by some universities which could give you a head start on a degree.

With campuses state-wide, if you live in a rural or remote area you may be able to do all or part of your course in your local community.
