TAFE Tasmania Student Residences

TAFE Tasmania’s student residences at Clarence (Hobart), and Alanvale (Launceston) provide comfortable, convenient accommodation in self-contained motel style units to TAFE, University or College students.

Burnie
Hellyer College Student Residence has places available for TAFE students.

The Alanvale and Clarence residences are also available to people who require budget accommodation whilst attending school or sports camps, on holiday or business trips.

Stays can be long or short term.

Accommodation

Both Alanvale and Clarence have two residence buildings, each with 11 units. Alanvale can cater for up to 89 guests and Clarence up to 93.
Burnie’s residence has limited places available..
Some units at each campus are wheelchair accessible.

Each residence building contains:

• Public phones
• Vending machines
• Fully equipped laundry (iron, ironing board, washing machine and clothes dryer)
• A range of outdoor and table sports equipment that may include football, soccer ball, table tennis, pool and air hockey

Each unit contains:

• At Alanvale and Clarence 3-5 single bedrooms. At Burnie 4 single bedrooms or shared room
• Lounge/dining area with colour TV
• Fully equipped kitchenette (fridge, toaster, kettle, cookware, crockery, and a stove or microwave)
• Bathroom with shower
• Toilet
• Telephone (incoming and emergency calls)
• In house movies
• Heating

Each bedroom contains:

• Desk and chair
• Desk lamp
• Bed and bedding (doona, doona cover, pillow, pillow slip, and sheets)
• Built in wardrobe and shelving
• Heater

Catering

At Alanvale and Clarence, guests can be provided with breakfast, and lunch or dinner for an additional fee.
Catering at Burnie is included within the 5 or 7 day fee. The fee includes breakfast and dinner only.

Under Age Guests

TAFE, College and OPCET Students under the age of 18 are supervised during their stay. All other guests under the age of 18 must be supervised by their parent/guardian.

Other Information

• Communal areas are serviced daily (including unit kitchen, bathroom and toilet)
• Car parks are located next to each building and are lit at night
• Metro buses pass the campus grounds on a regular basis
• Lawn areas and BBQ facilities are available for guest use
• Residence staff are available to assist guests

Availability

Our accommodation can quite often be booked out so it is advisable to book in a minimum of 4 weeks in advance.
Check in is not available on Christmas day.
Cancellations must be received at least three working days prior to your check in date; otherwise you will be charged the equivalent of 2 night’s accommodation.

Rates (Alanvale and Clarence)

¹ 5 day week rate includes 5 breakfasts Monday to Friday and 4 dinners Monday to Thursday
² 7 day week rate includes 7 breakfasts Monday to Sunday and 4 dinners Monday to Thursday
³ The non student rate of $34 per person per night is based on 4 persons sharing a unit. For single or double occupancy the overnight rate is $83 per unit.
⁴ Dinner only available 4 nights a week Monday to Thursday
⁵ Holding Fee only applies during gazetted school holiday and work placement periods
